Save the date: the Mowlem in Swanage opens for weddings

By Gemma Hurlstone · 16 September 2026 · Updated 12 October 2026

There is a new wedding venue in Purbeck, and it is right on the seafront in Swanage.

The Mowlem is opening for weddings, and it is marking it with a first open day on Sunday 29 November 2026, put together with Jess at Wild Soul Wedding Co.

Save the date

Sunday 29 November, 11am to 2pm, at The Mowlem on Swanage seafront. The date has moved from the one we first shared, so if you had pencilled in October, this is the new one.

The venue will be styled and ready for a wedding. Their wedding coordinator will be there to answer questions, and there is a drink on arrival if you sign up for a tour. To sign up for a tour and the free drink, email Kate at kate@themowlem.com. Details are on our community events page and on Jess’s events page.

Why it is worth the trip

A theatre is a proper room. A stage, height above your head, and a building the town has used for its films and its gatherings for years. Nothing about it is a blank white box, and you will know within a minute of walking in whether that is your kind of wedding.

That is the argument for open days generally. Standing in a room tells you what no gallery of photographs can. How the light falls in the afternoon. Whether the sound carries. Whether you can picture your people in it on a Saturday, laughing.

Everything is in front of you at once, too, so the questions that feel awkward over email are easy to ask. What is included. What is not. How many it really seats, rather than how many it seats on paper.

Suppliers, this is a good one to be at

A venue’s first open day is the best time to meet it.

Most couples in Dorset still find their suppliers through their venue, and a venue at the very start has no list yet. It is getting to know people, and you get to be one of the people it knows.

Our own next dates

The My Wedding Vibe Showcase at RNLI College in Poole is on Sunday 31 January 2027, with two more Showcases in February and April.

Suppliers, The Lineup is free to join, and you will hear about new dates as soon as they are set. Whenever you are ready.
